Our Services
ADD / AHDD Counseling
We all know kids who can’t sit still, who never seem to listen, who blurt out inappropriate comments or don’t follow instructions no matter how clearly you present them. While it’s normal for kids to forget their homework, daydream during class or act without thinking, inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity are also signs of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD. ADHD makes it difficult for a person to inhibit their spontaneous responses, including everything from movement to speech to assertiveness. Some children with ADHD may be constantly in-motion, bouncing off the walls and disrupting others around them.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a short-term, problem-focused form of behavioral treatment that helps people see the difference between beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, and free them from unhelpful patterns of behavior. CBT is grounded in the belief that it is a person’s perception of events – rather than the events themselves – that determines how he or she will feel and act in response. Most people with clearly defined behavioral and emotional concerns tend to reap the benefits of CBT. With CBT, you’ll be able to adjust the thoughts that directly influence your emotions and behavior.
PTSD
Have you experienced a traumatic event? Are you suffering from lingering fear and anxiety? Do you feel like you no longer have any control over how you think, feel, and behave? Posttraumatic stress disorder - also known as PTSD - is a mental health challenge that may occur in individuals who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event such as a natural disaster, a terrorist act, an act of war, a serious accident, rape, or any other violent personal assault. It is believed that PTSD affects nearly four percent of the U.S. adult population. While it is usually linked with veterans who’ve experienced combat.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, or OCD, involves having obsessive thinking patterns that can include unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that make a person feel anxious or distressed. Individuals who have OCD often have significant difficulty pushing away or ignoring these thoughts. Those with OCD also have compulsive behaviors which are an attempt to reverse the obsessive thoughts or urges by performing some sort of action.
Medication Management
Medication Management refers to the practice of determining the effectiveness and safety of medications used in the treatment of mental health conditions. After a healthcare professional prescribes a specific medication and a particular dosage, he/she/they will continue to evaluate the ongoing effectiveness as well as the potential side effects. The objective is to go beyond simply prescribing medication to optimise the therapeutic effects and enhance the quality of life in collaboration with the patient. This approach is vital in attaining prolonged stability and wellness.
Therapy for Depression
Are you feeling hopeless, isolated, and not your usual self? I want you to know that you are not alone and there are people who can help. Many of my clients find relief in realizing that their struggle does not own them and that there are many options available to once again have hope for their lives. I understand the social stigmas that come with the label of being depressed and thus aim to help clients sort out their environmental, biological, and circumstantial factors.
Bipolar
Bipolar disorder involves different levels of mood swings, changes in energy, and different ranges in activity. It encompasses high emotional changes (mania or hypomania), and severely low emotional changes (depression). When a person is in a manic phase, they can be very enthusiastic, show a lot of irritability, and have a lot of energy, which can lead to some reckless behavior. On the other hand, in a depressive phase, they can feel very sad and hopeless and lose interest in a lot of different activities. The changes in mood can alter sleep patterns, and put the brake on energy.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a debilitating mental condition that alters the way an individual thinks, feels, and acts. Those affected by this mental disorder may appear to be out of touch with the real world, which may be very distressing and may impact the person’s functional abilities significantly. Symptoms can be categorised as positive (adding something to one’s experience), such as hallucinations and delusions, negative (taking something away), such as diminished emotional response.
Autism
Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a complex developmental condition that involves persistent challenges in social communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behavior. The effects of autism and the needs of individuals with autism can vary widely, which is why it is described as a "spectrum." Some individuals may be nonverbal and require significant support in daily life, while others may have high-verbal skills and live entirely independently. Early intervention and tailored therapies can help individuals with autism develop communication skills.
